Havelock Island

Havelock island is famous for its extraordinary clean beaches, relaxing and calm atmosphere and amazing beach side resorts. When you visit Havelock island, first thing you will notice is peace and calmness. The island is 2 to 3 hours away from Port Blair, and is completely away from the hustle and bustle of city life. 

Tourists from different parts of the world come to Havelock to enjoy water sports such as snorkelling, scuba diving, jetski, parasailing, kayaking, etc. Havelock island is also famous for its clean and clear water that make this place a first option for swimming as well. Radhanagar Beach, Elephant Beach, and Kalapathar are three famous beaches of Havelock where you can spend your day enjoying the sea side views, swimming, and walking alongside the sea.

If you are a professional diver, you can enjoy the underwater beauty at Havelock island. You will find coral reefs, colourful fishes, turtles while scuba diving. If you get lucky, you may find some dolphins as well.

Best time to visit Havelock island is from March to May when the weather is pleasant. You will not find much heat, also due to the clear sky, you can enjoy the view of marine life as well.

Cellular Jail

Cellular jail is an age-old prison famously known as Kala Pani. This jail is a from colonial time, and located in Port Blair. The jail was constructed by the British during their colonial rule in India. Cellular Jail was built with 7 spokes in it and 693 cells. Many famous Indian freedom fighters such as Veer Savarkar, Batukeshwar Dutt, etc got placed and punished in Cellular jail. 

In current times, this jail is not a prison anymore, it is owned by the Indian Government and is a national memorial monument. During your visit to Cellular Jail, you will get a chance to see the jails from inside and the pain and suffering faced by the Indian Freedom Fighters during that time. 

The main attraction of cellular jail is its light and sound show that showcases the history of Cellular Jail. Cellular Jail is always a reminder of all the struggles and sufferings faced by our freedom fighters.

Entry fees: 30 INR

Light and sound show timings and fees: 6 PM onwards, 50 INR is ticket price.

Note: Cellular jail is closed on mondays

Ross Island

Ross Island, also known as Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Island is a beautiful island near Port Blair. A 20 minute boat ride will take you to this island. Here you will find ruins of British architecture such as their offices, churches, etc. It seems like an old island with broken structures all around. Here you will find deers roaming around. You have to take a small electric rickshaw ride to have a complete view of the island.

Corbyns Cove

Andaman And Nicobar Islands is not all about beaches and sun bathing, you can take a pause from this regular activity and visit Corbyns Cove. The breathtaking scenic view of palm trees along the peach side will surely put a charm on you. You should not miss the most breathtaking route that leads to the Cove, which is lined with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.

Chidiya Tapu

Chidiya Tapu also called as the Birds Island is a must visit place in the Andamans. It is 25 Kms away from the main Port Blair city. Here tourists come to watch different birds and to listen to the sounds they create throughout the day. You can also enjoy water activities such as scuba diving, snorkelling, Sea walking. Along with water activities, you can go for a trek as well to Munda Pahad. The view of the vast blue ocean from the tip of the Munda Pahad is quite heavenly. Chidiya Tapu is also famous for sunset, so do not miss it at any cost.

Baratang Island

Baratang Island or we can say Ranchiwalas Island is another mesmerising island located in North and Middle Andaman. The place is quite far from Port Blair, around 100 Kms. This is the only Island in India having muddy volcanoes. Baratang Island is also famous for Mangroves and limestone caves. Baratang Island is not much developed for tourism purposes, to reach there you can either take Government ferry services from Phoenix Bay Jetty or can go by Andaman Trunk Road.

In terms of facilities the place is not much developed, you will find few government guest houses and tea stalls and small food joints. Also, if you are willing to stay in Baratang, then book the guest houses in advance.

Notes: 

  1. Anyone cannot go inside these limestone caves, you first have to take permission from the authorities to visit the caves. 
  2. Do not visit the place during the monsoon, it could be dangerous. Best time is from October to May.
  3. To reach Baratang caves, you have to be part of the convoy. First convoy starts at 6 am in the morning, and the last one is till 2 PM.

North Bay Island

Another famous and highly preferred island by the tourists. It is popular for coral reefs and adventure activities. You can enjoy water activities like scuba diving, snorkelling, sea walking, glass boat rides etc. Just like Havelock, North Bay island is also famous for its marine life, you will see crystal clear water having various fishes. Remember, choose your activities as per the weather conditions, otherwise you will not be able to have the complete fun.
