Lord Hanuman brought the Shivalinga from Mount Kailash, as there was no Shivalinga in Rameshwaram at that time. The place is also sometimes known as Rameshwaram Jyotirlinga, as it is also one of the 12 Jyotirlinga. This should be one of the first places to visit in Rameshwaram when you reach the town.

Kalam National Memorial

Villoondi, Theertham Beach

Villoondi means buried bow. The place has an association with the Ramayana. According to folklore, here Lord Rama dug a sweet water well to quench the thirst of Goddess Sita. You can still find the well, and you can still taste the sweet water here directly from the well. The well is surrounded by the ocean, and surprisingly, the water in it is still sweet and drinkable.

Panchamukhi Hanuman Temple

Panchamukhi Hanuman Temple is a holy temple for Hindus. The temple is dedicated to the Hindu god Hanuman. The temple is unique as it represents Hanuman with five faces. Here you will also see the floating stone that was used during the construction of Ram Setu by Vanar Sena. When you enter the temple, you will certainly find yourself surrounded by a divine aura.

Pamban Bridge

The Pamban Bridge is an architectural marvel connecting Pamban Island with mainland India. It is the second-longest bridge in India made by sea. Earlier, this bridge was the only network for transport between Pamban and India. When you visit Rameshwaram by road, make sure to stop at the flyover just beside this bridge and wait for the train to pass over from Pamban Bridge. The gap between the bridge and the ocean is very small, which makes it a sight to behold.

Dhanushkodi

It is an abandoned town in the Pamban village, located at the south-eastern tip of Pamban Island. The place was destroyed in 1964 due to a cyclone. If you are planning to visit here, be ready to see the exquisite beach view. The place is surreal and is surrounded by the Indian Ocean on one side and the Bay of Bengal on the other. Here you will see the confluence of the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal, which is the last point of India.

Agniteertham

It is a sacred site located in Rameswaram, near the main temple, Ramanathaswamy Temple. This is the place where Goddess Sita took a bath before worshipping Lord Shiva. You won’t even see a small wave in this area.
